50,000 New Road Studs to be Installed Across the UK
United Kingdom, November 11, 2014 (Newswire.com) - A revolutionary new road stud is to be installed on two of the UK's busiest roads this year.
DBI and Tim Doody's White Lining are to install over 50,000 new road studs across the UK this year.
The road stud in question, developed by traffic safety company Ennis-Flint, incorporates unique 'Click Stud' technology for fixing the reflector to the stud body. The new system provides lifetime retention of the reflector unit without need for a bonded assembly.
This Stimsonite® Click Stud has a patented fixing system which allows rapid removal and replacement of the reflector in-situ in the road surface with minimum cost to the road operator and minimal disruption to traffic. It therefore provides a low cost solution to the maintenance of road studs reflectors, not to mention improved worker safety and environmental benefits.
The estimated time it takes to remove and replace a conventional bonded road stud is 8 minutes. The Click Stud takes on average just 5 seconds as you only need to replace the reflector. So although the average cost per unit is higher, the cost reduction in terms of labour is dramatically lower. Initial outlay cost of a conventional stud is £6-£8 vs. £11-£13 for the Click Stud whilst labour costs for a con conventional road stud are estimated at £7- £8 vs. less than £1 for the Stimsonite® Click Stud.
The new click studs are to be installed on the M25 and M74 later this year, with fewer and less lengthy road closures expected then usual for this type of work thanks to the fast application technology behind Ennis-Flint's road studs.
