25th Annual Paint Your Heart Out Clearwater Project Upgrades Local Homes

Clearwater Scientologists were among those participating in the Paint Your Heart Out Clearwater project that beautified 25 homes for senior citizens and other needy residents who cannot do the work themselves.

Scientology volunteers wearing T-shirts and caps bearing the logo of The Way to Happiness joined local businesses and community groups for the 24th annual Paint Your Heart Out Clearwater project.  They painted the exterior of a home in Clearwater’s North Greenwood neighborhood, beginning at 8am on a recent Saturday.  By 11 am the building gleamed in its fresh coat of white paint.

Paint Your Heart Out Clearwater is a community partnership comprised of the City of Clearwater, local businesses, community groups and concerned citizens. One day each year, teams of volunteers go out into various Clearwater neighborhoods to paint and beautify 25 selected homes for those in need, including senior citizens who are physically unable to do the work themselves.

This was the first year The Way to Happiness Association participated in Paint Your Heart Out Clearwater. They chose a North Greenwood home to upgrade, consistent with their February announcement of the “Adopt Greenwood” project.

Paint Your Heart Out Clearwater is a classic example of the application of The Way to Happiness precept 12 “Safeguard and Improve Your Environment,” which states, “Care of the planet begins in one’s own front yard. It extends through the area one travels to get to school or work. It covers such places as where one picnics or goes on vacation. The litter which messes up the terrain and water supply, the dead brush which invites fire, these are things one need not contribute to and which, in otherwise idle moments, one can do something about. Planting a tree may seem little enough but it is something....There are many things one can do to help take care of the planet.”

Written by L. Ron Hubbard in 1981, The Way to Happiness is a common-sense guide to better living. Its 21 precepts form moral code anyone can follow to live a happier, more decent and productive life.

The Way to Happiness Association volunteers have participated in various recent projects to forward precept 12 of The Way to Happiness, including cleanups in downtown Clearwater, the North Greenwood neighborhood and Clearwater Beach. The Way to Happiness Association of Tampa Bay is located at 33 N. Fort Harrison Avenue in downtown Clearwater. All are welcome to visit, attend events or help volunteer on community projects.
