21st Century Wellness Center Opens in Ann Arbor
Ann Arbor , Michigan , April 6, 2016 (Newswire.com) - In today’s world, the desire to find respite from the stress and anxiety of life can be overwhelming. Fortunately, the NeuroFitness Wellness Center, set to open in Ann Arbor April 4th, is designed to take on the physical, emotional and psychological effects of those stresses and help men and women of all ages achieve an optimal mind-body balance using the very latest in wellness technology and innovation.
The 2,000-square-foot center will feature three float rooms and one float pod as well as Himalayan salt rooms, a cryo-chamber, ARX, and a brain training room with Neuroptimal neurofeedback.
“Floating delivers a unique state of body and mind,” says owner David McCullar, who is opening the center. Dr. Mark Kelley, attending physician for St. Joseph Mercy Health Systems and adjunct clinical professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Michigan is the medical director. “We wanted to couple the benefits of this growing wellness solution with a number of other rare, beneficial and effective treatments that improve both physical and emotional health and put them all under one roof in a comprehensive, state-of-the-art facility.”
Floating has been shown to relieve pain, including back and muscle pain, as well as stress and discomfort due to pregnancy. The float room is a “dense spa” offering ultra buoyant water filled with Epsom salt. The sensation is one of zero gravity, allowing people to achieve a rare state of deep meditation and physical relaxation.
Additional physical and mental benefits of floating include expanded awareness and intensified acuteness of all senses; a speeding of the healing process; decreased production of cortisol and adrenaline; increased production of endorphins; improved immune function; improved circulation; reduction of fatigue; diminished depression, anxiety and fear.
The Himalayan Salt Caves are rooms with walls and floors made entirely of salt. Participants sit in the room for an hour to improve their peace of mind, reduce stress and seek improvement for a variety of physical conditions, including allergies, asthma, bronchitis, eczema and more.
The IMPACT Cryotherapy system is a complex freezing process in which the participant steps inside the platform and is surrounded by nitrogen vapor, which drops the chamber’s temperature to between negative 100 and 150 degrees Celsius. Lasting just three minutes, the treatment lowers the temperature of the skin’s top layer and has been shown to aid in muscle recovery and a general feeling of wellbeing.
Adaptive Resistance Exercise, also known as ARX, is an exercise-based technology that removes all of the limitations of conventional, gravity-based equipment. It offers all of the benefits of strength training without risk and with proven results. The equipment, called OMNI, matches the amount of intensity and effort that users put into it and incorporates software that can be customized for individual needs and uses.
NeurOptimal Brain Training helps participants become more mentally focused and achieve greater emotional stability and resilience. Sensors are placed on the scalp and ear. When turbulence is detected in brain activity, the system uses music to gently signal and guide the brain to change course, ultimately retraining a client’s way of thinking. The NeurOptimal System is highly advanced, moving at split-second speed based on information received by the brain at any given moment. Clients who have taken part say they feel “lighter and brighter” after just one or two sessions.
David McCullar and Dr. Mark Kelley both have personal experience with the benefits of floating and the other approaches to care that they will be offering through the Neuro Fitness Wellness Center. After suffering from severe anxiety, McCullar embarked on brain training and brain optimization-neurofeedback treatment that dramatically and quickly improved the symptoms related to his anxiety as well as depression and back pain. He now encourages others to join him on the path to wellness, taking a scientific approach to creating physical and mental improvements within the body. As a business man, McCullar is most recognized for co-founding the NeuroFitness Center in Southfield, which opened in 2007.
For Dr. Kelley, the journey began with cardiac issues related to the stress of his work. In an effort to manage that stress, Dr. Kelley went to the NeuroFitness Center in Southfield, where he met David McCullar and found exceptional improvement through float treatment. “I have since incorporated the NeuroFitness principles and modalities into my life and am in a much better place with the realities of everyday life,” he says.
Because of his life-changing experiences, Dr. Kelley sought to partner with McCullar to open the Ann Arbor office and bring these mind and body treatments to more people. “Seventy percent of visits to the doctor in the United States are due to stress-related issues,” Dr. Kelley says. “Hopefully this center will help those in need and slowly change that percentage.”
