2012 World Fantasy Artist of the Year, John Coulthart, Designs Logo for YA Fantasy Series
London, August 1, 2014 (Newswire.com) - English graphic artist, John Coulthart, the 2102 World Fantasy Artist of the Year, has teamed up with English author Brendan Murphy to design the logo for the author's six-book YA fantasy series, entitled Sebastian and the Hibernauts. The critically acclaimed artist, who is a regular collaborator with Alan Moore and whose dark vision is inspired by HP Lovecraft, turned to Celtic mythology for the design.
The series explores is an homage to Celtic mythology and an allegory of the Troubles in Ireland. It explores a number of themes including the loneliness of childhood trauma, how children deal with grief, the soothing power of dreams and dissociation, the moral and psychological landscape of a brutalised child turning teenager and dislocation as therapy. In the first instalment, Beyond the Gloaming, a cowardly Yorkshire boy must brave the ghostly Gloaming if he is to save the Celtic dreamworld of his ancestors. The book introduces Hibercadia, a world brimful of hunkypunks and gobbleratches, quizzing glasses and shillelaghs, mechanical fireworks and night rainbows, tragedy and joy.
