The situation peaked when Improv Comedy star, Gavin Methalaka spilled the beans about his 2 Peg Ke Baad confession and left the audience in splits. Dr. Lalwani read out her favourite story in which a transgender comes out of the closet after 2 Pegs. She took the listeners into the realm of fantasy as she introduced her book to them.
The author’s excitement knew no bounds when she got an opportunity to present a signed copy of her book to none other than the immensely gifted Rajat Kapoor who was at Hive for a play. Dr. Lalwani presented her book to several other talented actors who had dropped in at Hive. Celebrities including Shivani Tanksale & Sarika, TVF Permanent Roommate actors: Sumeet Vyas, Nidhi Singh and Sheeba Chaddha were at Hive that evening. The title of the book and the author’s profile intrigued them and they wanted to know more about the book. This led to interesting and creative conversationsbetween them and the author.
In the age of breezy reads, 2 Peg Ke Baad is an eclectic collection of short stories that contain a variety of topics that offer choices to its readers. When asked about her book, Dr. Nikita Lalwani says, ‘My mother says, after 2 pegs, nothing could go right’. But I feel that the world's most happening stories come up only after 2 pegs; so that’s how I decided to come up with a short story collection.”
The Book includes stories from all the genres and from different types of people from across the world. The book however, does not encourage drinking alcohol. However, there is no denying the fact that every euphoria, high, dysphoria or unconsciousness of mind has brought us at incredible events which at times have turned out being life changing. The stories are wrapped around almost anything that kicks the mind 2 peg ke baad!
Dr. Lalwani is from Jabalpur, a small district in Madhya Pradesh. She came to Mumbai a few months ago and at present is a copywriter in a prominent ad agency.
At the age of 15 she wrote her first article for a local newspaper in her hometown. The idea behind starting to write was to confront people with the long running conflict in her mind. The article was titled – why girls have restrictions – and I guess that explains everything about the conflict. However, it didn’t change anything except for the fact that Nikita had discovered a way to express her rage. When she was 16, she penned her first book – Live Life… Stop Analysing it – which was published with Himalaya Publishers. The foray never seemed to end for this one.
2 Peg Ke Baad has been published by Srishti Publishers. Speaking about the book, publisher Arup Bose says, “Dr. Nikita’s age belies her unending potential. She is an excellent writer who brings in variety in her stories. Since she is young, she understands the pulse of the youth and her roots allow her to understand the interests of the older generation as well. The result is a book that contains a collection of stories for every kind of reader.”
The coffee enthusiast, rebellious author adds, “I hated being a dentist. My parents were not too glad with the career choice that I had made. Somewhere they wanted me to continue studies and do my post-graduation, but I had made up my mind. It wasn’t that I was extremely sorted at my plans. But I was clear about the things that I didn’t want. I didn’t want to listen to the society anymore, as the past few years of listening to ‘what will everyone think’ had brought glamour in my life but not happiness.”
Dr. Lalwani is ably represented by Sarvashreshtha Solutions and AGENCY09 who are working on reaching the book to a wider audience.
When asked about the future, she quips, “I consider myself being married to writing. So no matter what I do for a living, I can never ignore writing. For now, my job is taking away all my time. However, when my clients and bosses are gentle on me, I manage to write. I have started working on my next book which is a dark fiction. It is based on a negative woman character and the plot is yet half thought through.”
