10th Annual Gay Home Ownership Legal Seminar
Online, May 22, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Gay or straight, doesn't matter. Two non-married persons purchasing property together in Texas need to know a few things about owning that love shack; co-ownership does not necessarily convey the same rights as with a married couple. If one partner dies without the proper legal documents in place, the surviving partner may now own half of the property with the heirs. Many of these rights should be specifically created at the time of purchase of the home or shortly thereafter with appropriate legal documents such as a will.
This topic will be addressed at a June 17 seminar, Same Sex Property Ownership in Texas: Protecting Your Partner and Your Assets. June is Pride month and this marks the 10th annual offering of this seminar. Featuring Tracy Kasparek, Attorney At Law (Thrash Law Firm), panelists & sponsors include Julie Nelson (The Nelson Project at Keller Williams Realty), Jan Hill (WR Starkey Mortgage), Douglas Plummer (Midtown Austin Title), Lisa Thomas (VP, Financial Advisor, Merrill Lynch), and Jeff Lutes (MS, LPC, Psychotherapist).
