Millikan Middle School To Host Pi Day Celebration March 14

March 14th Is The National Celebration Of The Mathematical Number, "Pi"

Robert A. Millikan Middle School, located in Sherman Oaks, California, will celebrate national Pi day on March 14th. Pi is abbreviated as 3.14 and is always celebrated on 3.14 each year. The celebration will be hosted by the Millikan Middle School Math Academy. Pi Day is the Math Academy's way of reaching out to the entire school population and making math fun!

On Pi Day all things Pi and Pie will be celebrated! There will be a Pie eating contest, pizza Pie for lunch and students will have the opportunity to throw a Pie at various teachers and even the principal, John Plevack! Students will also have the opportunity to participate in a contest to see who can recite the most digits in the number representing Pi. The number Pi is used to determine the surface area of circles, among other geometric shapes. Last year's winner was able to recite over 700 digits!

In addition to being fun, Pi Day raises money to provide a scholarship fund for students who might otherwise not be able to attend field trips.

Millikan Middle School serves over 2,000 students in grades 6-8 and is part of the Los Angeles Unified School District. Millikan serves a population of students from all over Los Angeles. The school is unique in offering a Magnet Performing Arts program as well as a Science, Civics, Performing Arts and Math Academy.
