Medanta Opens Its First Telemedicine Centre in Chandigarh

Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman of Medanta-The Medicity formally inaugurated the first telemedicine centre in Chandigarh in a strategic partnership with the Prime Diagnostic Centre.

Dr. Naresh Trehan, renowned cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgeon and Chairman cum Managing Director of Medanta -The Medicity inaugurated the region's first telemedicine consultation facility at Prime Diagnostic Centre in Chandigarh today on the eve of the World Heart Day.

Dr. Trehan said that it is a part of Medanta's commitment to leverage technology to provide easily accessible and affordable healthcare to the people in the country and help patients make informed choice for the course of treatment after consultation with super-specialists of Medanta.

The MediConnect is state-of-the-art telemedicine service centre equipped with the latest telemedicine software, medical equipment, high-res webcam, and electronic probes for virtual examination of the patient by super-specialists at Medanta in Gurgaon.

Medanta has selected Prime Diagnostic Centre run by well known cardiologist Dr. U.P. Singh and radiologist Dr. Ladbans Kaur as a part of strategic tie-up to extend the health consultation, tele-diagnosis, and provide experts' opinion to the patients in the region.

The patients, through this center, can forward their medical history and investigation details to the specialist at Medanta and can book an appointment for a video-consultation with him and seek his expert opinion about their illnesses. Telemedicine thus, makes specialty care accessible to all, eliminating distance and cost barriers.

Dr. Trehan also explained that their future plans are for exhaustive penetration into interiors of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh over the next three years to bridge the urban-rural health divide by reaching out to the remotest corners through telemedicine facilities.

Dr. Rajneesh Kapoor, Director of Intervention Cardiology at Medanta informed that Dr. Trehan and other super-specialists would now be available to the general medical practitioners in the region for continuous learning and updation through video conferencing, especially when new landmark non-invasive treatments are being developed including valve replacement without surgery, and managing uncontrolled high blood pressure amongst high risk patients through a simple procedure of renal denervation.
