Mango provided Smith and her family with free Russian language-learning lessons for Sochi and a donation to help her family make the trip
February 11, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Mango Languages is proud to announce its support for local Olympian Jessica Smith, of Melvindale, Mich., and has provided her and her family with Mango's Russian language course and $5,000 for her family's travel and accommodation in Sochi, Russia.
Smith will compete in the 500, 1000 and 1500 meter short-track speed skating events at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, where she will represent the Detroit area on Team USA.
Mango's self-guided language learning software enriches learners with language and culture, teaching valuable conversational skills and cultural knowledge that help them form cross-cultural connections. Mango's courses complement the Olympic spirit of international understanding and cooperation, and will help Smith's family make the most of the three weeks they spend in Sochi.
"The Olympics are cultural events where all borders are brought down. Through sports, everyone is united, which is something Mango strives for by enriching lives with language and culture," said Hamsa Daher, Mango Languages chief operating officer. "We're proud to see Jessica represent Detroit in this incredible event, and we hope she and her family find their Mango lessons a helpful way to learn more about the Russian language and culture."
Smith's family will attend the games with the additional generous support of Melvindale community members, who held fundraisers in her honor. During their stay in Sochi, Smith's family will have the opportunity to meet and interact with the families and supporters of the more than 6,000 athletes from 85 countries participating in the games. Hundreds of millions of people worldwide are expected to watch the games over the 17 days of competition.
