Guilt, Medical Errors & Healthcare Providers

Josie King's tragic story illustrates the repercussions of a fatal medical mistake on all involved.

When the King family of Baltimore lost their 18-month-old daughter to a tragic medical error, they didn't realize that medical errors affect everyone involved. In Josie's Story: A Mother's Inspiring Crusade to Make Medical Care Safe, author Sorrel King shares her personal healing process and how she came to understand that affected healthcare providers suffer guilt, grief and anxiety for years.

Josie's story is the next offering in the ADVANCE Book Club for Nurses at http://nursing.advanceweb.com/Article/Calling-All-Bibliophiles.aspx, scroll down to Calling All Book Worms. In a video interview with King, ADVANCE writer Rich Magda learns what this brave mother realized in her journey from grief at the death of her daughter to the formation of the Josie King Foundation. Among many initiatives, the foundation provides resources to nurses to help alleviate stress in their practice.
