Online, September 14, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Prepare to embark on a dark, mysterious journey into the life of American poet Edgar Allan Poe. Urban Arts Productions and the Maritime Museum of British Columbia reunite to bring back their critically acclaimed inaugural production of Nevermore which saw sold out audiences in 2010. This imaginative musical uses Poe's poetry and short stories as a base for the plot and his shifting obsessions with the women in his life as a catalyst. With hauntingly beautiful melodies, Nevermore breathes new life into Poe's work and explores a twisted true-life tale as bizarre as his classic stories of the macabre.
Nevermore runs Thursdays through Saturdays from October 27th - November 5th, 2011 with a special midnight performance on October 29th. Nevermore is staged 'in the round' in the Historic Victorian Courtroom at the Maritime Museum of British Columbia in Bastion Square. Urban Art's is excited to be bringing this haunting musical back to Victoria audiences for the Halloween season, staging it in the original Supreme Courtroom of British Columbia. Nevermore breaks musical theatre conventions with having no linear story line and almost constant underscoring. Characters come to life and interact in alarming ways - as people, voices, ghosts, and demons. Nevermore is a journey of death flashing before Poe's eyes. It is a montage, a whirlwind, a dream, a life and a nightmare all in one.
Nevermore begins at the end of Poe's life - an end that is cloaked in mystery worthy of the master of horror and the shadowy unknown. Edgar Allan Poe was found on the street semiconscious in Baltimore on October 3, 1849. Taken to hospital, he passed from delirium to unconsciousness, yet never fully recovered to tell how he had arrived in such a condition. Poe's delirious mind is a matter of much speculation and debate - an invitation for dramatic exploration.
