Design Interactive, Inc. announced the selection of President Kay Stanney as a participating judge for the Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE, a $10 million global competition to stimulate innovation and integration of diagnostic technologies, helping bring reliable health information directly to consumers. The competition is funded by the Qualcomm Foundation and designed, managed and operated by XPRIZE, the global leader in incentivized competition for the benefit of humanity.

21 teams from 8 countries have submitted their paperwork for judging. Up to 10 Finalist Teams will be announced in August 2014. The Awards Ceremony is scheduled for January 2016. The three winning teams will need to have a solution that most reliably and safely diagnoses a set of 15 conditions while providing the best consumer user experience. The FDA announced their support for the competition by creating a dedicated Help Desk line where competing teams can receive regulatory input from the FDA.

"I am honored and excited to be selected as part of the judging panel," said Kay Stanney, President and Founder of Design Interactive. "Disruption in health care is needed because the system is expensive and thus inaccessible to many. This competition represents a significant transformation in health care, stimulating innovation in wireless health information technologies, which can be accessible to all. The Tricorder aims to enable people to better understand their health care needs and make better decisions about their care, and holds the promise of a more efficient and collaborative personal health and wellness model."

Kelly Hale, Senior Vice President of Technical Operations at Design Interactive commented, "Wireless sensors will continuously measure an individual's state of health, enabling a person to see hidden patterns of health, wellness, and sickness in their own body. The convenience of having access on a mobile device allows earlier health diagnosis and interventions -- before someone is seriously ill. These breakthroughs in diagnostic technology and usability will ultimately revolutionize access to health on a global scale. It better leverages limited healthcare resources, improves how diseases are diagnosed and puts health care in the palm of your hand."
