AT&T Attempts to Subdue VOiP Apps, But the Innovators Will Prevail

Online, August 26, 2009 (Newswire.com) - Over the last 6 months the i-tunes app store has helped revolutionize the international calling market. It has done this by providing innovative companies the ability to offer consumers new choice for their international phone service.

Yet after the Skype app was released a few months back, AT&T quickly acted in an attempt to partially subdue these massive threats. They blocked VOiP apps access to the 3G network. So now these extremely cheap international calling services could only be used from WIFI.

This is a sad example of the state of the telecommunications market, these large corporations such as AT&T do everything in their power to stifle innovation, compared to innovating themselves. But these actions are just a bandage for a very large wound of AT&T's. And with the release of the Call Global app the bandage has come partially undone.

All VOiP apps provided iphone users cheap international calls using the internet, but the Call Global app uses a Voice Network to provide iPhone users cheap international calls. This allows the Call Global app to not be limited to WIFI zones, so it can be used absolutely anywhere. This poses a bigger threat to AT&T considering the has HD call quality, and transforms a $14.90 call to Germany with AT&T, into a $0.32 call to Germany.

AT&T must begin to see that this storm of new innovations will never seize but only intensify. The innovators and great minds of this world will find a way, and as history has shown us, they always have.

The booming smartphone world shows great promise for a tidal wave of innovation. At this time AT&T is attempting to halt this tidal wave, but they are attempting an impossible feat. And they will quickly drown. But maybe, just maybe, they will turn around and they will no longer attempt to stop this wave, and instead choose to ride it. They must see innovation is not a threat, but a new horizon filled with great opportunity.
