Furniture Village has boosted the green credentials of its 54 vehicle nationwide home delivery fleet, with the introduction of 13 new environmentally-friendly trucks supplied on contact hire from Ryder. The new trucks are a mix of EURO 5 compliant 7.5 tonne gvw DAF 45.160 EEVs with aerodynamic seven metre Bevan21 bodies, and 6.5 tonne gvw Iveco ECODAILY trucks with Bevan box bodies.

"We have worked closely with Furniture Village to custom-design the new trucks to incorporate the latest fuel efficiency technologies specifically to help further reduce the company's carbon footprint," comments Bruce Howard, Ryder's contract hire director.

Steve Morrison, Furniture Village's logistics controller, said: "In addition to being environmentally-friendly, the new vehicles have been specified with enhanced driver comfort in mind. This helps to ensure that the high quality of satisfaction that customers enjoy with our products is also extended to our home delivery service."

Furniture village has placed further orders with Ryder for new trucks to be delivered in the early part of the year which will result in more than 80% of Furniture Village's delivery fleet being EURO 5 compliant. This has not gone un-noticed by the Freight Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS), a government-run scheme that aims to improve freight delivery in London, which has awarded Furniture Village a bronze certificate.

Ryder has supplied trucks on contract hire to Furniture Village since the company first brought its nationwide delivery service back in-house, a number of years ago. Ryder trucks now operate from all of Furniture Villages 39 nationwide superstores and are used exclusively on the company's 'white glove' home delivery service.
