Patient safety advocacy and education group PULSE of NY is to offer a course of intensive patient safety advocacy training on Long Island, aimed at preparing candidates for possible employment by a Long Island-based home care agency.

The course will consist of three 4-hour classes, to be held on the Monday evenings of May 5, 12 and 19, 2014, in Freeport, NY.

Medical error and poor hospital practices harm hundreds of thousands of people in the US each year. This training equips participants to help safeguard patients during their encounters with the health system. They learn how to spot potential dangers, to promote patients' and their families' interests, and to help ensure the safest and best outcomes. Some of the topics covered by the training include HIPAA, complaints and appeals, human factors and errors, and effective communication skills.

Instructors will include award-winning patient safety advocate Leslie Farrington, MD, and nurse Andrea Goldstein RN, who bring more than 20 years of experience to their subjects.
