Yanko Apostolov, RIBA, Joins Cooper Robertson as Design Director

Apostolov will direct the design of Cooper Robertson's cultural and educational projects.

​​​Cooper Robertson announces that Yanko Apostolov, RIBA, has joined the firm as Design Director. Apostolov brings award-winning design leadership in museum, commercial, mixed-use, research, and high-rise projects worldwide. He will direct the design of the firm's cultural and educational projects and has previously collaborated with Cooper Robertson on the firm's design concept for the new Guggenheim Helsinki museum.

Apostolov most recently led his own firm, Yanko Apostolov Architects, with offices in New York, Shanghai, and Sofia. His most notable design project is the 250,000 square foot National Museum Complex in Sofia, Bulgaria which he won in an open international competition in 2010. Nominated for the EU's Mies van der Rohe 2015 Award, Phase I of the project, comprising permanent art collection galleries, a sculpture courtyard, administrative offices, conservation laboratories, art storage, and public amenities, opened in 2014. Yanko Apostolov Architects' other work included a 50 million square foot Eco-Agriculture Masterplan in Huizou, China, and a 1.2 million square foot Mixed-use Complex in Xinyu, China.

From 2001 to 2011 Apostlov was a Senior Associate Principal at Kohn Pedersen Fox, where he served as senior designer for the Harbin Bank Headquarters in Harbin, China; the Harbor View Residential Complex in Songdo City, South Korea; the Kerry mixed-use Center in Hangzhou, China; the Meixi Lake R&D Campus in Meixi, China; the K1 Offices in Hoofdoorp, The Netherlands; and other large-scale commercial and mixed-use buildings.
