It's Not Brain Surgery: Good Academic Positioning May Be Key to Getting Ahead

Innovative admission services firm helps students gain entrance into their dream universities

“It’s not brain surgery! Getting into a good college significantly increases your chances of having a successful career” says Jude Chan, former Neurosurgeon in training and founder of EFIIE Consulting Group, a Coral Gables-based firm offering cutting-edge academic and admission services to students nationwide. The firm was founded with the purpose of helping students maximize their academic prospects, and to date has coached dozens into gaining admission into some of the nation’s top universities.

Jude Chan, a graduate of University of Miami, attended Harvard University with the intention of pursuing a career in the field of Neurosurgery. Albeit a very rare and valuable opportunity, medical school turned out not to be a good fit for Chan’s trailblazing character. A teacher at heart, Chan traded in his scrubs in favor of having a more immediate impact in his community, employing his passion and creativity in helping young students become excited about learning math and science.

A Florida State Certified Teacher, Chan went on to become an instructor at Florida’s prestigious Mater Lakes Academy, where he taught Advanced Placement Physics and Biology.  Throughout his tenure at the school, he coached hundreds of students, instilling in them a deep sense of intellectual curiosity. He found his true calling as he inspired kids to reach their full potential, and sought to find solutions as he saw that many of his students faced difficulties in securing admission into their dream universities.

EFIIE Consulting Group was born out of Chan’s desire to help his students through the maze of college applications. “When it comes to applying to college, many students, without realizing it, follow the easiest path. Due to a lack of sufficient guidance, they inevitably fail to make the best out their strengths and available resources. I started EFIIE with the goal of helping students identify their best college match, and giving them the leverage they need to secure a successful career” explains Chan.

“As students focus in fulfilling admission criteria and meeting application deadlines, they often neglect their academic performance, thus hurting their chances of securing admission” adds Chan. EFIIE seeks to educate students on how to better manage their workload, making their college application process increasingly more manageable – as well as far less stressful and daunting for their parents at home.

“What makes EFIIE so different is the system we use for advising our students. We believe that our clients should first understand their calling before committing to years of study.” Chan adds. “We help them accomplish this by exposing them to ‘real life’ experiences within their areas of interest. When a student comes to us wanting to be an actor, we do everything we can to place them in a position that shows them what that career would entail. The same goes for a student who wants to be a surgeon.”

Since opening its doors in January 2014, EFIIE Consulting Group has helped over half a dozen local students gain admission into exclusive Ivy League programs in MIT, Yale, Princeton, and Columbia University. With a select line-up of professional consultants with backgrounds in areas of study ranging from Medicine to Performing Arts, the firm is slowly expanding to serve students nationwide. Their clients come from all over the US and 50 other countries including United Kingdom, China, India, Japan, Italy, France, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Cuba, Philippines and many more. Some are entering college for the first time, others are seeking admission into graduate and professional programs.

“Our services are highly personalized. Not every client that comes to us is a good match for our program, and we are very upfront about this. We can’t guarantee you a spot at Harvard, but we’ll do everything we can to prepare you to have an excellent shot at it. We are proud to boast a 100% admission success rate among our enrolled students,” affirms Chan.

In its short lifespan, EFIIE Consulting group has also built a strong reputation in Miami, receiving endorsements from respected figures in the educational arena including Henry Langston, Dean of Faculty at Gulliver Schools. They also count with the support of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Chan has built an enviable contact list, and has worked with many distinguished figures from A-list actors to philanthropist. This list includes names such as Spike Lee, Sean Penn, and Ana LaDou.

“It’s such an honor to know that our work is valued in the community, and that we play a role in helping students reach their dreams,” acknowledges Alexandra Diaz, Office Director at EFIIE Consulting Group.

This summer, EFIIE will offer an intensive boot camp to High School Juniors seeking to kick-start their college application process.  In four days, enrolled students will gain insight on prospective college pathways, and draft compelling essays geared to specific universities of their choice. As part of an exclusive offer, students who register by July 30th will receive a $500 discount off their enrollment.
