First Bio Released on Grammy Award Winning Songwriter, Eugene Record, Lead Singer/Producer of the Chi-Lites

Eugene Record died of lung cancer 10 years ago this July. His family decided that this was a long enough stretch of time without a biography. His son, Brian A. Record Sr., has released a life story of his father.

Record Family Music Group Publishing Co. released their first biography on the late former lead singer, songwriter and producer of The Chi-Lites, Eugene Record. In recent years, stars have performed and sampled his music like Beyoncé, Jay-z, Kanye West & Smokey Robinson. The book was written by his son, Brian A. Record Sr. It was released on July 22nd which marked the 10th anniversary of Eugene Record’s death. The publication is titled, “My Father in Lites:  A Father’s Story from a Son’s Perspective.”

The book starts with the humble beginnings of Eugene’s ancestors and takes the reader to the legacy he has left behind. It introduces the audience to the people who inspired some of his most popular songs such as “Have You Seen Her”, “Oh Girl,” and “Give It Away.”  This book is intensely engaging with how Eugene went through financial hardships going from one job to the next trying to care for a growing family. Once he overcame this struggle, he found himself faced with the challenges of juggling fatherhood and the demands of a successful music career. It gives firsthand knowledge on what it was like having to share a dear father with the world of music entertainment from a son’s point of view.

It took several years for Brian Record to pull together the information to complete this 276 page bio of his famous father, Eugene Record.  His memory is astounding as he recalls the various events in detail of his childhood growing up in the same household of a Grammy Award winning musician. The excitement is contagious that he experienced as a child as he explains his thrilling interactions with various stars at shows and in the recording studios.

The family is releasing an audio book spoken by Eugene B. Record Jr. October 5, 2015 is the release date of a tribute CD of some of Chicago’s elite performers with some of Eugene’s old music as well as some of his material that has never been released before. The family also plans to release a documentary with home film footage and animation on his birthday which is December 23rd to close out the trilogy.
