In the run up to SMi’s 14th annual Benelux Infrastructure Forum, Ian Conlon was asked a few questions regarding the conference as well as the role of the European Commission and how they steer investment in the Benelux market. On what he thinks are the current barriers and challenges facing investment and infrastructure projects, Ian Conlon said: "The biggest challenge currently faced is how to meet the huge infrastructure needs required in the coming years. Addressing this challenge in a sustainable way requires a careful and strategic use of public resources and reliance on some private sector finance to efficiently leverage public resources."

It seems we are in a period where huge infrastructure projects are becoming less numerous. So it will be interesting to see how the market responds to a pipeline of smaller, and ideally more numerous infrastructure projects.
