For the past year, Carel USA has been working closely with Thaddeus Stevens College through industry visits, internships and training. On July 27th, Carel USA provided an equipment donation to Stevens. This, along with an upcoming mentorship program this semester, will further enhance the students’ experiences in multiple programs: Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning - Refrigeration, Electrical Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology and Electro-Mechanical Technology. Carel USA welcomed representatives from Stevens to their facility in Manheim, PA. Dr. William Griscom (President), Dr. Robert Nye (VP of Academic Affairs) and Allen Tate (Director of Development) were presented with a wide array of donated equipment by Alessandro Casadei (VP of Product Development) and Bryan Armstrong (Application Designer and a Stevens alumnus).

Carel USA has had great results with graduates of Stevens; seven Stevens alumni are currently employed at Carel USA,” says Armstrong. “These donations will benefit future graduates’ success at Stevens and once they enter their industry”. As stated by Dr. Griscom, “Carel USA serves as a role model for industry/higher education partnerships; we are appreciative for all of their support.”

The new Carel c.pCO (programmable logic control – PLC) will allow instructors to easily teach students all PLC programming languages defined in the industry standard (IEC-61131-3). Additionally, the numerous connectivity options the c.pCO provides will present new teaching opportunities and will allow the student to interact with building automation and process control. The Carel software tool c.Suite, used to interface with c.pCO, is a suitable learning environment for students. The line of electronic expansion valves and electronic drivers will give HVAC/R instructors the possibility to educate students on the latest energy efficient technology in the industry today. Recently several instructors participated in a technical training with much anticipation and excitement to begin using Carel equipment in their classes. The expectation is that students will learn the advanced concepts and cutting-edge technologies found in many of today’s high tech industries.
