BIBS Recently Organized Brand War

‪‎BrandWars‬ is an exercise that has been developed to give students a real-time understanding of how branding plays a vital role in creating the life-cycle of any product or service. Students get to develop the branding for products in this team based activity in which the finals see the groups presenting the entire branding strategy for a new product.

​Learning something practically has gained much importance in the recent years as practical learning initiates better and newer methods of learning in students. To encourage the students, in practical sessions of learning, BIBS, a prominent B school in Kolkata  organized Brand War – a skill development competition that aimed at helping students to master management skills.

Brand war

A unique concept “Brand war” is basically awar among the brands created by the students. Four teams participated in the competition, each having different name and different marketing selling points. A complete brand portfolio incuding marketing pitch, TVC, adverts were created by the students for their respective brands. Among all the brands Lefkos Cygnus won the competition and the Ochre Orions was declared the runners up. The task that has been assigned to the students was to create new brands by applying their recent knowhow about the marketing strategies and also to take care of the minute details that are a must while launching a new brand portfolio. 

There were certain parameters that were preset for evaluation process and the parameters on which the teams were judged included in-store design, marketing strategy, media plan, presentation, collaterals etc. There was also a question –answer session, which took place after the presentation where the judges asked them questions related to their products. Also points were to be allotted for other sections too like radio jingle, advertisements, newspaper ads etc. Golden Hercules got 2nd prize for the in-store design.  

Mr. Vidur Kapoor, the chairman of the institution shared his views on the occasion saying,“ I feel students will surely get to know a lot from the session as this will provide a valuable insight into how the industry works. I must say that my students have put up indeed a good work.”

The eminent jury members

The judges were corporate executives from different renowned companies like BRITANNIA, JW&T,ITC, RK SWAMMY BBDO among others. The eminent members shared their thoughts on branding as they assessed and evaluated the different brands made by the students. These types of real life experiences helps students understand the marketing concepts better. Brand war-a fight among brands has been a true success as this enabled the students to upgrade their knowledge and understanding of the dynamic   atmosphere of the corporate sectors and their methods of evaluation.
