KTD's unique Scoop-a-Thon has become a beloved and popular tradition at this San Francisco jewelry boutique. KTD's customers are invited to scoop in a sand-filled treasure chest, hunting for the dozens of loose gemstones buried inside. What they find, they can keep for free -- although if they turn up more than two, they'll have to make the difficult choice which to hold on to and which get tossed back into the sand.

Nearly every gemstone imaginable is represented, from the well-known (rubies, sapphires and diamonds, for example) to the less traditional (amazonite, tourmaline and carnelian, to name only a few). The gemstones range in color from dazzling white to stunning black, with every shade of the rainbow in between.
Adding to the treasure-hunting fun are a pirate and a mermaid, played by professional actors, who "guard" the valuable loot and help guide customers through the gem-scooping process. The KTD Fine Jewelers showroom, normally an elegant oasis inside the San Francisco Jewelry Center, is decorated like a tropical island for the event -- albeit a tropical island featuring hundreds of exquisite jewelry pieces in every price range.
At the 2014 Scoop-a-Thon, nearly 200 treasure hunters uncovered gems. This year, more than 550 gemstones with a combined value of nearly $75,000 will be hidden in the treasure chest. KTD anticipates at least 500 customers from the San Francisco Bay Area, the rest of the United States and even parts of Canada will try their luck at scooping for them.
The Scoop-a-Thon runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2015, through Friday, July 31, 2015. The Scoop-a-Thon is open to KTD Fine Jewelers customers only. Customer registration is required, but no purchase is necessary.
