2015-2016 David A. Winston Health Policy Fellows Announced

The David A. Winston Health Policy Fellowship is pleased to announce that Adrianna McIntyre, University of Michigan, and Lydia Orth, George Washington University, are the 2015-2016 Winston Health Policy Fellowship Recipients.

The Winston Fellowship offers a twelve-month post-graduate experience in Washington, DC to students from member universities of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA). Through systematic exposure to organizations, associations and coalitions in the private sector, as well as policy development centers in Congress and the Administration, the program offers Fellows unparalleled opportunities to expand their knowledge of the political system and how health policy is shaped. Three months of orientation visits to key policy development centers in Washington and surrounding areas are followed by a nine-month placement that allows each Fellow to explore current health policy issues in depth while gaining invaluable, firsthand experience in policy making.  The selection, as in past years, was extremely competitive, with 48 applicants and 5 individuals selected for interviews.

Adrianna McIntyre currently attends the University of Michigan, and will graduate in April 2015 with a Master in Public Policy and a Master in Public Health. She has experience as a health policy blogger, and, most recently, served an internship with Ezra Klein’s media company, Vox, in Washington, DC.

“After several years of studying health policy and writing about it for a digital audience, I was looking for a change to attain meaningful, hands-on, experience in the field. The David A. Winston Fellowship offers a singular opportunity to work alongside the people and the process at the heart of national health policy, and I’m thrilled to take this next step in my career,” Adrianna stated.

Lydia Orth graduated from the George Washington University earning her Master of Public Health this past December. Previously working with Atlas Research Lydia has worked with CMS, The Virginia Department of Veterans Affairs, and National Jewish Health, providing research and analytical analysis for various healthcare issues, including Medicare and Medicaid related issues.

According to Lydia, “I am humbled and honored to be selected as a Winston Health Policy Fellow and to be given the opportunity to continue David A. Winston’s legacy. I feel truly fortunate to be able to learn from the top minds in the health policy field through this unique and unparalleled experience”

“The Winston Board continues to be excited about introducing these outstanding young health policy professionals to the national health policy discussion. We are convinced that these two individuals will make important contributions to that discussion this year and in the future,” said David S. Abernethy, the Winston Fellowship’s Managing Director.
