NYC Non Profit Announces Artist Line-Up for the Inaugural Brooklyn Beat Festival

Art for Progress (AFP) will host "Brooklyn Beat Music and Arts Festival" June 1st thru 3rd at The Paper Box in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The festival will coincide with Bushwick Open Studios, and will bring people together for a fabulous weekend of music, performance art, installations, fashion, and film. With a striking artist collective, AFP is bringing the best and brightest to the table for their first weekend-long interdisciplinary festival.

With a diverse line-up of live music performances, DJs, performance art, film screenings, video and fashion installations, you won't want to miss this spectacular event! Live music acts include Apollo Heights, Lachi, Ze Luis Quartet, Push Method, Argotec, School of Thought, Minnie and Aya, Redheadphone, Inky Glass, El Pueblo and more. DJs include Brooklyn's own PUNCHES, Jeannie Hopper (Liquid Sound Lounge), Bruce Tantum (Time Out NY), Kervyn Mark (Melting Pot), Jimmy Sky, Bass Control (Ultra Music Festival), Gatto (AFP), Brett from Boundless, DJ Jago, and Sal Leone. Caridad Sola will curate provocative performance art throughout the space. Special guest John Henry Edington will be the MC and host for the weekend.

Attendees will be reveling under the stars in the outdoor art garden while they soak up compelling video and art installations, and participate in interactive fashion. Featured designers are Tom Sohung, Iliana Quander, Paula Collins, Alicia P, Sweet N Salty, and Allyson Jacobs. Video installations by artists Max Greis and Jeanne Wilkinson will show on both Saturday and Sunday. Sunday will be for all ages, with a special musical performance by Jon Samson of CoCreative Music. Sunday evening, Grammy nominated Ze Luis will perform along with his band followed by a diverse selection of short films curated by Daniel Maldonado of Gashouse Films. The hours are as follows: Friday, June 1st: 8pm-3am, Saturday, June 2nd: 5pm-3am, Sunday, June 3rd: 1pm-8pm. Cover is $5; $8 after 11pm Friday/after 9pm Saturday. Open to all ages Sunday with kids free 12 and under. $3 PBRs all weekend. Open bar daily courtesy of Bomb Beer. The Paper Box will be serving food all weekend. AFP is a New York City based 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization committed to the cultivation and support of emerging artists working in diverse genres. Since 2004, AFP has served to increase the visibility of talented artists, and to support the arts in public schools through its arts education program. AFP also provides artists with exposure both on-line and at special events, and offers affordable health insurance and supportive services. Most recently, in March AFP was the nonprofit partner of the Fountain Art Fair at the 69th Regiment Armory in Manhattan.
