Wiley and Peking University Launch New Chinese Management Accounting Online Course

Wiley and Peking University collaborate on a new Management Accounting online course, Wiley-Peking University Management Accounting (WPMA).

Wiley and Peking University collaborate on a new Management Accounting online course, Wiley-Peking University Management Accounting (WPMA), that aims to help accounting and finance professionals develop the critical accounting and financial management skills needed for today's complex and changing business environment. Completing the three-level course will also prepare participants for achieving the CMA® (Certified Management Accountant) certification, a globally-recognized credential for accounting and finance professionals in business. The WPMA course will launch on March 15, 2016 on NetEase's Cloud classroom and TopU.com, an online classroom owned by China Hitech Group (a PKU controlled public company). The course can be accessed via computer and mobile devices, making it convenient for course participants to learn anytime and anywhere.

The WPMA course is developed from an inaugural partnership between two highly established organizations in the knowledge and education space. "Wiley has been providing knowledge, tools, and resources to empower professionals to achieve their full potential for generations," says Joan O'Neil, Executive Vice President of Knowledge and Learning at Wiley. "We are excited to be partnering with Peking University and with the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA ®), bringing innovative online courseware to the rapidly growing field of management accounting in China," she added. The course is developed by a highly experienced team supervised by Professor Chen Lei, Professor Wang Yong Mei from Peking University, and Ms. Denise Probert, CPA, CGMA and Director of Curriculum for accountancy exams for Wiley.

Caters to Market and Industry Demands

The Ministry of Finance of China recently issued a preliminary version of Basic Guidance of Management Accounting to strategically drive the development of management accounting in China. The implementation of the Guidance is expected to make management accounting adopted by a wider scope of organizations, boosting demand for professionals with relevant skills and certification.

"Management accounting has received tremendous endorsement and support from Chinese government.  We are very glad to collaborate with Wiley and Peking University to release the online course just in time for the growing demand," said Junjiang Bai, Asia Pacific Director at IMA. "The WPMA course enables financial professionals and general management staff in all fields to master and implement globally-recognized management accounting fundamentals and best practices, and thus advance the development of management accounting in China," he added.

"From our extensive experience working with the Chinese academic and scientific research community, to finding top-class universities, training and distribution partners to develop learning solutions with, Wiley is always seeking to engage with and support this vital and growing market advancing the field of Accounting worldwide," says Jesse Wiley, a seventh-generation of the Wiley family, who is a member of the Wiley board of directors and works in Corporate Development.

Suitable for All Levels

The WPMA course is suitable for accounting and finance professionals at all levels - from young executives planning to advance their career, to experienced decision makers looking to improve their data analysis skills and obtain an advanced professional certification.  The course is designed to build the individual's technical management accounting skills and knowledge, to enhanced employability, and ensure the development of a workforce that is prepared for roles and demands critical for professionals in today's economy.

Three-level Course Structure

The WPMA course has three levels to complete.  The introductory course in level one prepares course participants with the fundamental knowledge and skills to analyze financial statements in order to make the right decisions that will add value to the organization. Level one covers three modules - (A) Building your skills in cost and management accounting; (B) Building your planning technique skills such as budgeting and forecasting; and (C) Building your skills in financial statement analysis. To ensure that participants maximize learning and understanding, course participants will have access to three learning tools - instructional videos in Chinese or in English with Chinese subtitles, Chinese-language study text, and practice questions.

Level two gives course participants the knowledge, tools and practice necessary to empower them to successfully sit and pass their CMA certification examinations with the official CMA preparation material supported by IMA. "Built upon the CMA certification, which has been recognized and adopted by government agencies, large-scale companies, and tens of thousands of financial professionals in China during the past ten years, the WPMA online course offers a comprehensive review of skills that are in demand globally," said Junjiang Bai.  Level two Wiley-Peking University CMA course will be released later in 2016.
