Walters Group Secures Lease for ACME Markets in Barnegat

ACME to Open Flagship Store at Barnegat Village Square in February

Walters Group has secured a lease with ACME Markets to open a new grocery store at Barnegat Village Square, filling a space formerly occupied by Genuardi’s that has been dark since 2012.

ACME signed a lease for the 50,000-square-foot space on West Bay Avenue, making it the flagship store at Barnegat Village Square, which consists of several other businesses. The site is scheduled to open its doors in February, confirms Ed Walters, Jr., president and founder of Walters Group, which developed the shopping center in 1998.

“We are excited about ACME’s investment in Barnegat,” said Walters. “The new location will have the opportunity to fill a need for residents since the community has been without a local supermarket for several years.”

The existing site will undergo interior renovations, according to Walters. Current tenants at Barnegat Village Square include Burger King and an additional 22,000 square feet of smaller retail shops.

ACME Markets recently expanded its store count to 178 stores across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and now New York and Connecticut. ACME continues to reinvest and expand at the Jersey Shore.
