"The Idea" by VetPrep is an Innovation Competition Giving Veterinary Students a Chance to Win $17,500

Season 3 Ideas Can be Submitted Until July 1st

THE IDEA

The IDEA is now accepting applications from veterinary student innovators through July 1st, 2018 with an opportunity to win a share of $17,500 in prize money. The year-long competition will culminate in the Season 3 Live Finals at SAVMA Symposium 2019 hosted by the University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine.

The IDEA is a veterinary student innovation competition intended to stimulate and develop creative ideas from young veterinary problem solvers. The IDEA is hosted by VetPrep in collaboration with the Student American Veterinary Medical Association (SAVMA).

I thoroughly enjoyed getting to work with the student teams and see the entrepreneurial future of veterinary medicine through their eyes. These young innovators have given me a fresh perspective on the creative minds that are entering our profession and I can't wait to see where they'll lead us.

Andrea Dover, IDEA competition organizer and Program Manager at VetPrep

“We are doing this because we started our company when we were veterinary students and our business allows us to interact with veterinary students frequently” says Dr. Ira Gordon, a co-founder of VetPrep. “Students have so many great ideas but often times lack the confidence, resources, and mentorship they need to turn their ideas into reality. This competition can help with all three. It is an opportunity for us to provide the type of assistance that we wish was available to us back when we were students.”

In Season 2 of The IDEA, 27 student teams from across North America entered the competition. The semi-finalists worked closely with Dr. Aaron Massecar, the executive director of the Veterinary Innovation Council (VIC) as well as many guest mentors to take an entrepreneurial and innovative journey that resulted in the selection of three teams to compete in the live finals held at the Hard Rock Cafe in Philadelphia.

The $10,000 grand prize of The IDEA competition was presented to Michael Conguista from University of Minnesota for his Dental Vet typodont concept. William Aqeel and Emmanouil Emmanouilidis were awarded the $5,000-second place prize for their U-Syringe concept, and Cory Erb and Devyn Bartell from Washington State University were awarded the $2,500 third place prize for their PetStat app. The cash prizes were awarded to assist the winning teams in funding the ongoing development of their ideas.
