The Heroine's Journey of Lucy Monciel

By Peter De Kuster

What is the best thing that I love about my work?  I love the possibility of connecting with new people each day, creating something meaningful that anyone could easily take in their hearts. Writing music is that noble profession that brings balance for yourself and for others.

What is my idea of perfect happiness? Perfect happiness is reached when your passion and your profession can support you until the end of your days. It is when you find those perfect friends that encourage you to be the best you can be. It is when you feel that your work can have a positive impact on the world around.

Almost ten years after launching The Heroine's Journey guides, business storyteller Peter de Kuster remains an irreverent, forceful voice—inspiring people to follow their passion, making money doing what they love and change the face of business.

What is my greatest fear? My greatest fear is to become my own obstacle. In other words, I am afraid to make the wrong decisions at the right time; I don’t want to live with regrets. While I know those wrong decisions can put you on the right path in life, time is too precious for me to change my mind. Moreover, some opportunities never come back twice.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? Trusting the wrong people.

Which living persons in my profession do I most admire? I admire Sia for the perfect alignment of her lyrics and melody to a quirky and addictive rhythm. I love Pink for the character she displays in her songs. In addition, I love Pharrell Williams for his daring productions.  I also like Josh Groban for his impeccable vocal performance and his inspiring album “all that echoes.”

What is my greatest extravagance? I guess my personality is my greatest extravagance. I have a quirky way of saying things, making jokes and communicating with people. In other words, I like to shock or impress when they least expect it. For example, instead of calling someone “unusual”, I would rather mention something about the behavior of a duck going to shopping at 12 o’clock.

On what occasion would I lie? Even people who barely know me pointed out that I am a very honest person. I usually don’t like to lie. I just want to say the truth at the right moment. That is because I expect people to truly trust me.

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? I dislike multitasking when I am creatively focused on a certain aspect of my work. Multitasking is good with logical activities rather than creative ones. That is why I prefer to do collaborations and delegate when I need engineering help.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work? I believe that the happiest time in my work was towards the end of last year in Los Angeles. I was in love and in a creative mood, was surrounded by awesome friends and was discovering every day new aspects of my work through collaborations, not to mention I was recording continuously.

If I could, what would I change about myself? I would definitely be less naive and trusting. There is a saying that you should trust only those who truly earned your trust first.

What is my greatest achievement in work?  I have been recognized through Global Music Awards and Akademia awards.

Where would I most like to live? In a beach house in Laguna Beach, California.

What is my most treasured possession? My music and my mascot I got from BMG. The mascot is a reindeer made for a celebrity songwriter.

What is my most marked characteristic? I have big round eyes like the characters in manga series.

What is my most inspirational location, in my city? Next to the ocean, on the beach or in a garden full of roses.

What is my favorite place to eat and drink, in my city? My favorite place to eat is at Sugarfish in Calabasas, a Japanese sushi chain serving high quality omakase at affordable prices. However, my favorite place to have tea is at Chado Tea in Pasadena.

What books influenced my life and how? I guess it’s “Harry Potter” because he demonstrated that humans have no limits when they have enough will to accomplish something.

Who are my favorite writers? In music, I admire Charlie Puth for his catchy lyrics and great melodies, Ed Sheeran for adding various nuances to music and also crafting addictive choruses. Of course, I love Sia for making her music a true signature regardless of the performer.

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? If it’s up to me, I would love to listen to “All I Ask Of You” from Phantom of the Opera. It is also funny though, cause that music piece is also related to the theme of love transcending death and darkness.

Who is my hero or heroine in fiction? I used to have many heroes, but when I think of the most memorable one, is Harry Potter because of his willingness to transition from a human to a wizard.

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? I am my own hero and heroine. In “A Hero Like You,” I addressed the unnecessary dependency to a fictional hero when in reality we are strong enough to even surpass their power. It’s all about believing and building yourself.

Which movie would I recommend to see once in a lifetime? It would probably be “Love Affair,” with Warren Beatty, because I am a romantic person and that movie was very well done.

What role plays art in my life and work? Art is the core of my work, it’s that creative inspiration that wakes me up in the morning and tells me I need to work on the next big thing.

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner-in-crime? My parents.

Whom would I like to work with in 2017? Josh Groban, Pharrell Williams, Major Lazer and Sia

Which people in my profession would I love to meet in 2017? Josh Groban, Pharrell Williams, Ed Sheeran, Pink, Charlie Puth

What project, in 2017, am I looking forward to work on? My next new single called “Femme Fatale.”

Where can you see me or my work in 2017? On my website www.lucymonciel.com, all major social media channels as well as all online major stores like iTunes and Spotify.

What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me? It means that I should protect and feed the creative flame I have inside, keep fighting for my talent and passion for music and bring out all the beauty that I have inside through new works for my fans and audience.

Which creative heroines should Peter invite to tell their story? Flaviyake
