Sacramento Record Store Chronicled in National Podcast

Sacramento Record Store The Beat Featured in Sounds of the Re:Union's 'For the Record' Episode

Jacksonville, Fla., - April 1, 2010 - State of the Re:Union (SOTRU), a nationally-aired Public Radio show, announced the release of the new Sounds of the Re:Union video podcast today. The latest installment of Sounds of the Re:Union highlights a Sacramento community gem, The Beat. This Sounds of the Re:Union episode, titled 'For the Record' focuses on independent record stores across the country and what they are doing to survive during a widespread industry decline. Host Brenton Crozier talks to owner Rob Fauble about how the store started, dealing with the struggles of the digital age of music and what the store means to the community of Sacramento. Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson is also a customer and gives his opinion of the store.

"For many of us, independent record stores are the unsung cultural cornerstones of an area," said Ian DeSousa, Creative Director for State of the Re:Union and Sounds of the Re:Union. "We're excited to have the opportunity to shine a light on institutions like The Beat, the kind of local epicenter that creates a gravity all its own and connects a community of music lovers."

"I have an emotional connection to this 'For the Record' episode," commented Brenton Crozier, Host of Sounds of the Re:Union. "Growing up, I developed relationships with my area record stores, trusted the employees' recommendations and felt that rush that came from the thrill of the treasure hunt. While I'm amazed at the accessibility of music online, and as convenient as it is, it's simply not the same."

Sounds of the Re:Union is a supplemental podcast to State of the Re:Union, an NPR show that tells the stories of real people through an innovative exploration of a city.
