Rothman Orthopaedics' Concussion Network Partners With Theraplay, Inc. to Provide Best Care for Their Pediatric Concussion Patients

Mild traumatic brain injury (TBI), or concussion in children, is a growing public health concern. Data has shown a marked increase in the number of emergency room visits for brain injuries over the past decade.1 These types of injuries can have lasting impacts on a patient’s physical and emotional well-being. Early intervention after a suspected concussion is crucial, regardless of immediate or delayed symptoms.

Treatment options for post-concussive care can be overwhelming. After an emergency room or primary care visit, parents and caregivers need to coordinate the sharing of information between doctors, therapists, schools and coaches, since communication is critical for the successful return to school and sport.

It is for these reasons that Rothman has partnered with Theraplay for the therapeutic rehabilitation of their pediatric patients. The two companies are working together to make this process easier and more effective by coordinating plans of care for Rothman’s pediatric concussion patients. When a patient calls Rothman’s Network, they are directed to a dedicated coordinator who can help them navigate the ins and outs of concussion treatment. From setting up an evaluation and testing to updating doctors and schools, Rothman’s representatives are there to facilitate all steps in the concussion treatment process.

One of the most important aspects of successful concussion rehabilitation is therapeutic intervention. Rothman recognized the value of utilizing the expertise of Theraplay’s experienced pediatric therapists to treat all concussion patients from the ages of birth to 21. Theraplay’s team-based approach and comprehensive concussion rehabilitation program allows therapists to individualize each therapy regimen, returning patients to baseline function and their maximum potential.
