Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, "Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane."

Pulse Center for Patient Safety Education and Advocacy (formerly PULSE of NY) announced today that as part of its Healthcare Equality Project it will host a workshop aimed at empowering African-American communities to improve healthcare outcomes.

Between 80,000 and 100,000 African-Americans per year die prematurely because of inequality in health and health care.

The workshop will be held Saturday December 2, 2017 at the South Nassau Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Freeport, NY, from  2:00 to 4:00 pm.

A few facts:
·      Between 80,000 and 100,000 African-Americans per year die prematurely because of inequality in health and health care.
·      There is extensive evidence and research that finds unconscious biases can lead to differential treatment of patients.
·      Even subtle cues – like body language – can differ in patient-doctor interactions, depending on a doctor’s biases and whether a patient is white or black.

African-American community members are invited to participate in the workshop, free of charge and learn some tips for humanizing healthcare for the best possible outcomes.

Refreshments will be served. Seating is limited. RSVP or learn more by calling (516) 579-4711
