On Sunday, global futurist and best-selling author Jack Uldrich was in New York to speak to leaders at L&T Technology Services, a leading global ER&D company, and L&T Info Tech, a top-ranked global IT solutions and services company based in Mumbai, India. In his presentation, he shared his insights on the future for manufacturing, engineering and IT services.

During his keynote, Uldrich addressed how manufacturers, engineers and IT service providers can start future-proofing themselves by embracing emerging technologies in artificial intelligence, the internet of things, Big Data, 3D manufacturing, nanotechnology, robotics and blockchain technology. But his keynote was as much about the top technological trends as it was about how to embrace and harness them in the most efficient way possible.

What is the most effective way to embrace technology? Uldrich says it has a lot to do with an organizational mindset that includes humility as a key component. His presentation was titled The Big AHA. "AHA" is Uldrich's acronym for Awareness, Humility and Action.

To put the concept simply, he says, "You have to be aware of your limitations. You have to know what you don't know and be willing to seek out answers from those who do know."

According to Uldrich, "New advances in technology bring forth exciting discoveries every day. But often lost in this new reality is the fact that organizations must unlearn old, obsolete knowledge and old ways of doing business before they can seize tomorrow’s opportunities."

A frequent speaker on the future trends in manufacturing, his clients include the Precision Metalforming Association (PMA), Stiles, Siemens, the IBD, Emerson, ABB, Honeywell, Trane, Eaton and the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute (PMMI.)

Uldrich is also the author of 11 books, including the award-winning bestsellers: "The Next Big Thing is Really Small: How Nanotechnology Will Change the Future of Your Business" and "Jump the Curve: 50 Essential Strategies to Help Your Company Stay Ahead of Emerging Technology." His most recent book is "Foresight 20/20: A Futurist Explores the Trends Transforming Tomorrow."
