New Smooth Jazz Recording Artist Jay D Luis Releases Funky Rhythm Gypsy Album

"Rhythm Gypsy" from Midwest bassist and session artist Jay D Luis is a sonic tapestry of world beat, funk and progressive smooth jazz

Crystal Records recording artist Jay D Luis has release his first smooth jazz record, “Rhythm Gypsy.” The album contains 9 tracks for an approximate total listening time of 50 minutes. The album brings together a notable line-up of world-class musicians that lay down a sonic tapestry of funk, world-beat, and progressive smooth jazz melodies and grooves.

“As a performing musician and composer, I wanted to paint a colorful picture of the musical experiences and influences in my life,” says Jay D Luis, smooth jazz recording artist for Crystal Records. “Each and every style, music era, and genre contributed to forming my musical DNA. As a bassist and guitarist, rhythm was always at the heart of my musical journey. And, I was always drawn to the explosive, very melodic and rhythmic styles of music forms such as Gypsy jazz, flamenco, big band swing, progressive jazz, funk, and other great music. It made sense to title this project "Rhythm Gypsy." I hope you enjoy this album and the Rhythm Gypsy experience.”

The album hits the ground running with the first track a “Slap in the Bass,” a fast-paced, smooth jazz boogie with catchy melody and harmonies and a percussive groove fueled by Ace drummer Mike Topagna. “Bass Caravan” features Belgian drummer Hans De Cock and sets the mood for a smooth bossa-groove with ascending chordal bass lines and intertwining melodies emanating from Jay’s bass. The album then takes a turn to the Caribbean with “Bahama Mama,” a happy reggae tune with an infectious groove and sticky melody brewed by Jay and Hans. “Future Landscapes” is an ethereal piece that is truly “chill,” with Jay’s legato bass lines and Han’s deep, visceral percussive tracks. The title track “Rhythm Gypsy” introduces an electric, flamenco-flamed groove where Jay introduces another bass groove and catchy melody, as well as displays his progressive jazz guitar work. Short bass and guitar solos are interweaved throughout the album to display Jay’s virtuosity.

Rhythm Gypsy is available for download at CD Baby, Apple iTunes, Amazon Music, Spotify, Rhapsody, Sound Exchange and other on-line music stores. To learn more about Jay D Luis and his music, visit: www.jaydluis.com.
