With nearly 30 years of experience, Ms. Burkett brings a wealth of knowledge to her industry, and in particular to her area of specialization, family law. When asked why she decided to pursue a career in law, Ms. Burkett said:

"I was a Spanish major in college, so the Berks County public defender’s office hired me to do some translating. I really liked what I saw in terms of the job they were doing in court to help people, so I decided to go to law school."

What sets Ms. Burkett apart from her peers in the industry is her passion for helping families get through one of the most difficult times in their lives with ease and dignity. No matter how complicated a case, she prides herself on sitting down one-on-one with each client to guide them through the legal process with compassion and care. As a Family Law Mediator, she strives to settle conflicts with straightforward, out-of-court agreements that keep peaceful relationships intact. However, when no agreement can be reached, she is fully prepared to protect clients’ rights in court. In 2000, Ms. Burkett was appointed by the court to serve as both Divorce Master and Custody Conciliator, the only attorney to ever provide standing service to the court in both functions. She served fourteen years as Custody Conciliator and fifteen years as Divorce Master and uses the benefit of experience from both of those positions to assist her clients presently.

As a thought-leader in her field, Ms. Burkett keeps her eye on prevailing trends in family law. In particular, she is currently paying attention to the evolution of the use of social media in her line of work:

Ms. Burkett currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Sexual Assault Counseling and Resource Center and is a former member of the Lebanon County Commission for Women, as well as a former member of the Board of Directors of the Domestic Violence Intervention of Lebanon County. In 1991, Ms. Burkett founded a custody clinic at MidPenn legal services, with the intention of providing low-income parents with access to essential legal services. In 2006, she was awarded the Pro Bono Award by the Pennsylvania Bar Association for fifteen years of continued service there.
