Internationally Touring Group 'Artrageous' to Perform at NBA All-Star Game

Interactive arts-based performance group 'Artrageous' primed to add color, fun, and energy to NBA All-Star event in Charlotte, NC.

Artrageous at the NBA All-Star Game

Artrageous, a touring troupe of artists, singers, dancers and musicians based out of Tijeras, New Mexico, announced today it has been commissioned by the NBA to perform at center court as part of the 68th NBA All-Star weekend at the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, North Carolina on Saturday, Feb. 16.

The four-and-a-half minute performance, to take place during the halftime of the NBA All-Star practice game, will feature three artists painting original portraits of NBA All-Stars on 6 feet by 6 feet easels, while accompanied by two singers and assisted by the All-Star cheerleading squad.

“We have performed at several NBA events in the past but performing at the All-Star game is very special,” says Lauri Francis, one of the producers and a performer in the Artrageous troupe, adding, “We are excited to bring a truly unique performance to the All-Star festivities, and while we can’t say who exactly we will be painting, we look forward to creating these original pieces to the NBA's top talent and their fans.”

Artrageous — a theatre arts community-based in Tijeras, NM — have performed over 3,000 shows around the world since the group's formation in Vancouver in the 1980s. From their humble roots of children's theatre and street performance, this group of like-minded, “misfit” performers has grown to become an international phenomenon, revolutionizing performance art and interactive entertainment. Their shows — comprised of a fresh mix of fine art, live music, singing, dancing, humor, and audience interaction — are driven by their underlying message that arts are an integral and valuable part of human existence. Notable performances include a private performance for Sir Richard Branson at his home on Necker Island, British Virgin Island (2008); a performance at the World Cup Soccer Finals in Paris (1998); and headlining at the 44th annual Festival Internacional Cervantino (2016).
