Hastings & Hastings has been representing accident victims across the Valley of the Sun for over 30 years. In those decades spent fighting relentless defending the rights of accident victims, one thing has become apparent to Hastings & Hastings - accidents will always happen. Every preventative measure in the world can be take, yet external factors may still contribute to causing an accident.

. Hastings & Hastings notes that this mean that wearing protective gear while riding a motorcycle is of the utmost importance.

According to research done by Dietmar Otte, a motorcycle safety expert, approximately 45 percent of all motorcycle involve impact to the head. A helmet is the single most important piece of motorcycle safety gear. Motorcycle helmets are composed of layers Styrofoam padding and a hard plastic outside covering. They are designed to crumple, much like the frame of a car, in the event of a collision in order to dissipate energy and lesson blunt for trauma. Helmets which have been involved in a collision must be replaced. Hastings & Hastings further notes that helmets should be replaced approximately every 5 years.

A list of additional safety equipment should include gloves, jackets, pants, and boots. Severe abrasions are a common injury in a motorcycle accident. These injuries, often referred to as ‘road rash’ can sometimes be life threatening. For this reason, motorcyclists must wear heavy-duty, abrasion resistant jackets and pants. These items may also feature padding. Padded motorcycle gear, also known as ‘body armor’ may be rated using CE certification. Hastings & Hastings notes that many motorcycle safety experts advise avoiding any motorcycle safety gear that has not received a CE rating.
