A helmet is the single most important piece of motorcycle safety gear. Motorcycle helmets are composed of layers Styrofoam padding and a hard plastic outside covering. A list of additional safety equipment should include gloves, jackets, pants, and boots. Severe abrasions are a common injury in a motorcycle accident. These injuries, often referred to as ‘road rash’ can sometimes be life threatening. For this reason, motorcyclists must wear heavy-duty, abrasion resistant jackets and pants. These items may also feature padding. Padded motorcycle gear, also known as ‘body armor’ may be rated using CE certification.
