Erlanger Health System Wins 2015 Ortho Transformation Award

OrthoServiceLine.com, a leading national resource to the orthopedic community sponsored by Wellbe, today announced that the Chattanooga-based Erlanger Health System has been named winner of the 2015 Ortho Transformation Award.

The Erlanger orthopedic team put together a dedicated elective orthopedic team and operating room system which focused on complementing the growth of orthopedic trauma cases. Their efforts focused on creating a highly engaged and productive team, with an emphasis on lowering implant and other supply costs, implementing new leadership policies, and building a new elective orthopedic surgery operating suite.

“Over a long period of time and with the work of many dedicated staff members, we have been able to put together a highly effective and efficient elective orthopedic team”, noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. Paul Apyan.  “We feel that this team and our surgeons, in combination with our new operating rooms, are well-poised for the future in delivering premiere elective orthopedic care at Erlanger.”

Erlanger Chief Operating Officer Rob Brooks, said, “We are extremely proud of all our orthopedic surgeons, the OR and nursing staffs, physical therapists and ancillary staff who contributed to the success of this initiative and enabled Erlanger to be recognized with this award.”

An expert panel of industry judges selected Erlanger as the winner based on a number of criteria, including the size of the challenge undertaken, the use of teamwork, and final results including any metrics. Erlanger’s team received a trophy, catered team lunch, and for the nominator/leader: a scholarship to the orthopedic education meeting of their choice.

“Erlanger’s journey shows what surgeons and hospitals can achieve when they work together to set up their programs for the future of value-based care,” said Maeghan Nicholson, editor of OrthoServiceLine.com. “Patients in Chattanooga will benefit from having such a forward-thinking organization in their community.”
