Employer's Support for the Guard and Reserve's Executive Summit -2016 Highlights Veteran-Friendly Companies

The summit will bring together leaders in business, public service and higher education to discuss effective ways to recruit and support veterans. Over fifty leading organizations and corporations will be sending representatives to discuss a wide-range of issues related to veteran employment.

ESGR’s Paul Ryan and Bart Buechner will be joined by Dichondra R. Johnson, Education Analyst for the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency in the opening session. Johnson will recognize TTi Global as the newest member of Michigan’s certified veteran-friendly employers. Last month TTi Global was granted its bronze-level veteran-friendly employer certification from the Michigan Veteran Affairs Agency. TTi Global has taken a leadership role in the organization and sponsorship of this summit.

Other outstanding individuals in the veteran community scheduled to make presentations at the ESGR Executive Summit-2016 include:

Tom Smith, Program Coordinator, of Michigan State University- Institute of Agricultural Technology “Vets to Ag Program.” The Vets to Ag program is an innovative residential training program for US military veterans to work in a variety of food, agricultural, and natural resources businesses.  Training is coordinated by the MSU Institute of Agricultural Technology and is delivered by experts from MSU faculty and staff, including MSU Extension, Kellogg Biological Station, and the private sector.

Angela Shelby, Statewide Recruitment Coordinator for the State of Michigan, will discuss the very successful Michigan State Police “Troops to Troopers” program. Michigan State Police (MSP) partners with the Department of Military and Veteran Affairs for recruiting efforts specific to veterans.

Keith Nattress, General Motors Veteran and Military Affairs, will discuss leading hiring and retention initiates that focus on veteran recruiting.  The discussion will examine the company’s commitment to providing veterans and their spouses opportunities for career growth.

The summit concludes with public signing of the “ESGR Statement of Support” by Charles Hyde, CEO of the Grosse Pointe War Memorial.  Lori Blaker.
