Edwards Maxson Mago & Macaulay, LLP, or EM3 Law, is pleased to announce that two of its partners, Jamal Edwards and Ajay Mago, have received honors for leadership and excellence in both business and law. The newly-formed firm’s innovative, collaborative business model has garnered attention from three distinguished organizations.

Jamal Edwards, EM3’s Chicago-based attorney, has been selected for inclusion on the Top 100 Black Lawyers Executive Committee by The National Black Lawyers. This organization recognizes and honors the nation’s top-achieving black attorneys for their outstanding performance and commitment to diversity in the industry.

With countless dedicated and influential minority industry leaders in the North Texas business community, it is an honor to have been chosen as one of the 30 award-winners. I am energized by the growth in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex and it is exciting to be in a position to enable businesses and entrepreneurs to succeed and achieve new heights. This award, and the honor granted to my colleague Jamal Edwards, demonstrates EM3's dedication to encourage inclusion, diversity, and growth within our communities.

Jamal was selected because of his “superior skills and qualifications and for having demonstrated leadership, excellence, and outstanding results in his career,” according to the announcement made by The National Black Lawyers. Inclusion on this exclusive list is by invitation-only, and nominated attorneys are subjected to a rigorous examination process before inclusion, with peer recommendations and third-party research.

“I am very grateful to have been selected for this committee and to be honored for my work on a national level,” commented Edwards. “It truly is a privilege to join the ranks of so many distinguished colleagues, and I am proud to be recognized as a minority leader in the legal field.”

“We are proud of Jamal and his achievements, and are pleased to witness him gain national recognition. His business acumen and extensive experience in Real Estate have been of great value to our platform on all levels,” said Samuel Mtunga, COO, and principal of XFD Real Estate Partners, a client of EM3 Law and which owns and operates student housing properties in Illinois and Texas.

Edwards has an extensive list of honors and awards prior to launching EM3 Law, including from the National Black Lawyers, who named him to their “40 under 40” in 2016, and “Top 100” lawyers in 2017. He has also been recognized multiple times by SuperLawyers® as a Rising Star in both Illinois and Michigan and is an alumnus of Crain’s Chicago Business’ prestigious “40 Under 40” list.

Ajay Mago, based out of EM3’s Dallas office, has also been recognized for his outstanding career milestones by The Dallas Business Journal. Mago has been chosen to receive the 2018 Minority Business Leader award. “Our class of honorees represents the best of the best in North Texas,” commented Tracy Merzi, publisher of the Dallas Business Journal. This year, the award judges chose from more than 170 nominees, and the winners were selected based on their exceptional business leadership skills and positive impacts on the communities in which they work.

“With countless dedicated and influential minority industry leaders in the North Texas business community, it is an honor to have been chosen as one of the 30 award-winners,” said Mago. “I am energized by the growth in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex and it is exciting to be in a position to enable businesses and entrepreneurs to succeed and achieve new heights. This award, and the honor granted to my colleague Jamal Edwards, demonstrates EM3’s dedication to encourage inclusion, diversity, and growth within our communities.”

Mago was also recently elected as a Fellow to the American Bar Foundation upon the recommendation of the national officers of The Fellows. Selection as an ABF Fellow is recognition of a lawyer whose public and private career has demonstrated outstanding dedication to the welfare of society and to the highest principles of the legal profession. The Fellows of the American Bar Foundation is an honorary society of lawyers and jurists and is limited to one percent of the lawyers admitted to practice in the U.S. and its territories and to a limited number of lawyers in jurisdictions outside the U.S. Mago is a member of Indiaspora and has additional honors from Emerging Lawyers and Legal 500 – Leading Lawyers for M&A: Middle Market.

“Ajay and EM3 Law have been integral to our global manufacturing business. He has an unwavering commitment to his clients and an unparalleled ability to understand our businesses and quickly close complex transactions and make it seem like a walk in the park,” said Gordhan Patel, Chairman of American Standard Circuits, Inc., a client of EM3 Law and a leading manufacturer of advanced printed circuit boards for Military, Aerospace, Industrial, Medical, Telecom, and Automotive applications and recipient of numerous innovation in manufacturing accolades.
