Is it true that what goes around comes around or is true that no good deed goes unpunished? Is there a Loophole in the Law of karma? Those are the questions Doug Shear attempted to answer at the LOL, Life Out Loud show, held at the charming Tre Amici @ the Ybor Bunker.

After getting yelled at by a lifeguard for saving a woman from drowning in the ocean, and getting attacked by a vicious Doberman after saving a young man from drowning in a canal, Doug Shear began to question the existence of Instant Karma. The audience loved the presentation, and one of the patrons - a Pakistani woman - told Mr. Shear that his Indian accent was perfect.

The LOL, Life Out Loud show was produced by Jaquira Diaz & Adriana Paramo as an act of love. It featured musical interludes by outstanding musicians Jun Bustamante and Las Solitarias. Other readers included Ariel Parr reading She Wants a Salad, Stephanie Galvin reading The Poem I Almost Wrote & Alan Shaw reading My Man Card. Producer Jaquira Diaz read Fell In Love With A Girl, while her co-producer, Adriana Paramo, read What Do I Tell My Daughter About Love.

This was the third production of LOL, Life Out Loud. They are seeking submissions for the next reading in March, 2010. Their website is lol-lifeoutloud.com. Writers, or anyone with a great story to tell, are encouraged to submit their work.

Doug Shear is the author of the cult novel Rhubarb Culture, set in a Miami in the near future, in which a Survivalist and his Suicidal girlfriend escape the Police, Corporate Thugs and a New Age Suicide Cult. His second book, American Karma - Twilight of the Marijuana Gods, is based on his real life experience as the victim of the most notorious Get Rich Quick scam of the twentieth century. His stage play Saint Peter at the Gate, was produced in Toronto, Canada and Boca Raton, Florida. It's about four victims of a car accident, whose lives are intertwined in ways they cannot imagine, who try to convince Saint Peter to let them through Heaven's Pearly Gate.

Mr. Shear is also a screenwriter and comedian. He performs at several local venues in Miami, Florida that he would never actually attend as a patron. Recently he read a piece about looking for work as part of the popular Lip Service True Stories presentation at Books & Books in Coral Gables, Florida. His YouTube Channel offers several samples of his comedy, including his performance in Ybor City of A Loophole in the Law of Karma. His website is http://dougshear.net.
