Care Net's April 'Walk For Life' to Include Adventure Racing, a First for Waco

The April 27, 2013 Human Race this year will move to downtown Waco, Texas because Cameron Park is so beautiful with the cliffs, bike trails, and the river, and all those elements will be incorporated into the event.

Care Net Pregnancy Center of Central Texas today announced its annual 5K "Walk for Life" fundraiser has expanded and been renamed "The Human Race." It will be held Saturday, April 27th at 8:00 a.m. in Waco's Cameron Park and on the Brazos River.

Care Net invites casual athletes to adventure seekers in the region to participate in Waco's first adventure race. The Human Race offers a variety of races for ages 2 to 92, including a 5K run/walk or a combination of walking, kayaking and biking, and is pleased to offer events for participants at any level.

The Fundraiser is a 5K walk or run.
The Sprint Adventure Race is a 5K run, 3K paddle and 10K mountain bike.
The Extreme Sprint Adventure Race is a 10K run, 6K paddle and 14K mountain bike.
The Dry-Tri is a 5K run, a 3K paddle and a 8K road bike.

Participants can race solo, in teams of two or three, or as a group such as an entire family.

Early registration is open at $75 per participant through April 12th. If you register between April 13th and April 25th, the fee is $85. Registration on April 25th and 26th is $95.

"For the inaugural Human Race this year, we decided to move the event to downtown because Cameron Park is so beautiful with the cliffs, bike trails, and the river, and we will incorporate all those elements into the event," said Deborah McGregor, Care Net's chief executive officer. "An adventure race typically has three disciplines -- a bike leg, a run leg and some kind of water leg, and we chose to have a paddle leg using either kayaks or canoes."

Presenting sponsors to date include Outdoor Waco, Providence Health Care, Summit Dental, Texas Professional Exteriors, Capstone Mechanical, Gerald Cox Pediatric Dentistry, and Eastside Animal Hospital. Sponsorships are available through March 31st.
