"We've had notable consistency in business activity recently. With the new president, we have to be mindful of the dynamics that are going on in Washington and what the regulatory impacts will be for those of us representing regulated businesses. We're hoping for some kind of tax reform. Agriculture is very sensitive to trade, so we also need to pay attention to how the new trade policies are approached. That could have some near term impacts on pricing that our farm industry receives, which reverberates throughout the whole agriculture industry."

With more than 30 years dedicated to law, Mr. McCastlain brings a wealth of knowledge to his industry and, in particular, to his areas of specialization, the fields of corporate and business law, especially as they relate to agribusiness. When asked about his decision to pursue a career in his specialty, Mr. McCastlain said:

"I grew up in agriculture and always wanted to stay in agriculture one way or another. The practice of law seemed to provide the best opportunities there. When I was getting out of law school, farming was becoming larger and more sophisticated, which called for more money, better business arrangements, and better business planning. Agriculture has been very good to me, a lot of what I learn from those farm clients has been easily transferred over into any other client or corporate setting."

Today, Mr. McCastlain provides a broad range of legal services to farmers, landowners, and cooperatives and businesses involved in Arkansas agriculture. His practice primarily focuses on assisting clients with farm or ranch estate planning, agri-business succession planning, business law, and corporate transactions. In addition to his extensive experience in agri-law, Mr. McCastlain offers services in estate planning, corporate law, business formation, sales and acquisitions, contract negotiations and business transactions.

As a thought-leader in his field, Mr. McCastlain keeps his eye on prevailing trends within corporate and business lawespecially as it relates to agribusiness. In particular, he notes the need for his firm to pay very close attention to the new administration as it begins to develop its policies:

"We've had notable consistency in business activity recently with people buying and investing more, doing more transactions. But now there is some uncertainty on what will come into play with the new president. We have to be mindful of the dynamics that are going on in Washington and what the regulatory impacts will be for those of us representing regulated businesses. We’re hoping for some kind of tax reform. Agriculture is very sensitive to trade, so we also need to pay attention to how the new trade policies are approached. That could have some near-term impacts on pricing that our farm industry receives, which reverberates throughout the whole agriculture industry."

In addition to his practice, Mr. McCastlain serves as a Board member of the Arkansas Food Bank where he works to streamline interaction between production agriculture and hunger relief efforts. The Food Bank provides a broad range of services to those in need, including a Food for Kids program which sends food home over the weekend with kids whose families cannot afford it.
