The reverse side of the medal features the stunning image of the Nation’s beloved symbol – the majestic bald eagle. The image was created by the US Mint AIP designer Paul C. Balan and sculpted by the US Mint Sculptor-Engraver Don Everhart II. It represents a stunning eagle rising in flight, gripping the universal symbol of freedom in its talons – the olive branch. Its image is encircled by the “PCB” and “DE” initials, the words “United States of America” and the mintmark “S” or “W”.
To struck this fabulous silver medal at its San Francisco and West Point facilities, the US Mint used the 1 troy ounce .999 pure silver blanks from the American Silver Eagle program. Unlike the 2015 Liberty gold coin, the 40.6 mm silver proof medal is not legal tender and doesn’t carry a face value. The production limit of this fantastic bullion is of only 12,500 items, with a household order limit of 2 pieces per edition.
