Bakersfield Magazine's New Issue is Dedicated to All Things Dude!

It's a man's world out there-but that doesn't mean that guys can't have fun. Even after dealing with the rigors of daily life, men in Bakersfield know how to have a good time. Read all about it in the newest issue.

We wrangled up some dudes and prodded them for answers about the things that make a man tick. Or, to be more exact, the things that get a man's engine purring. We came up with three things: guns, grills, and motorcycles. In a fabulous story about the local chapter of Safari Club International, Gordon Lull shoots the breeze with some of the members of this conservation group to find out what it's like to come face to face with lions, tigers, bears, and elephants in the wilds of the world. And writer Matthew Martz stokes the coals with five guys who know the meaning of barbecue. It's a love story as old as man-what happens when boy meets grill? Finally, the local division of the California Highway Patrol gives us access to talk to three motorcycle officers who offer up words of wisdom about what it's like to be out on the open road and the accompanying adrenaline rush so many men crave. Makes you wonder why Cyndi Lauper didn't write another song called "Boys Just Wanna Have Fun."
But Bakersfield Magazine is not only about having fun-this issue is also a fantastic resource for those looking for more information on the medical community. It's our Medical Specialties issue, a mid-year health report full of insightful stories about the areas of medicine we don't regularly hear about. There's a story on a local company that's developed state-of-the-science prosthetics, which are helping people, from all over the world, walk better. And because nutrition is such an important part of our lives, we've got a story on the whens and whats when it comes to your metabolism. A feature on what's in our blood includes information from local companies that work extensively with the life-giving liquid, and what physicians can learn with just one drop. And finally, because healthcare is changing, we're bringing readers a story on what to expect when they check into a hospital in this day and age. No longer are they cared for by one doctor and one nurse. With more specialists comes a higher level of care for those in our community.
Of course, our regular favorite features are also included, including What's Cookin', Skilled Hands, and our newest feature, Stuff We Like. Once again, our fashion-forward editors picked out items that we think you should know about! And we're giving away gift certificates to the local businesses we've included on our Stuff We Like blog.
The magazine is also pleased to continue expanding our Community Partners section. With stories on the importance of supporting our local Boys & Girls Clubs and the Golden Empire Gleaners, we're profiling great causes in our community that we should all get behind.
