Attorney Robert Tankel Featured as Guest Speaker at Community Association Law Seminar Sponsored by Florida CAM Schools

Class in session

Attorney Robert Tankel of Tankel Law Group, was a featured speaker at a recent seminar held by Florida CAM Schools (FCS). Describing his style as an "enter-trainer," Tankel explained that the term describes teaching with passion combined with training in an entertaining manner.

Held at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation, it was hosted and sponsored in part by Amelia Island Management. Over 60 Florida Community Association managers (CAMs), and Board members attended and received 4 hours of CE credit or Board Certification.

Continuing Education is important because. as Bob Tankel said, only half joking, the 3 most highly regulated industries in Florida are nuclear power, insurance, and community associations and managers....

Bob Tankel has been practicing Community Association law since 1982 and is founder of Tankel Law Group. He is an expert in the field, devoting his entire professional career to that representation.

Betsy Barbieux, founder of FCS, is a certified advanced behavior specialist, certified image consultant, professional development coach, speaker, and trainer, a Florida licensed CAM, and CFCAM-Certified Florida Community Association. She is an industry leader in presenting seminars and classes for CAMS. Led by Betsy, the seminar addressed it's topics in a lively question and answer format that encouraged attendee participation.

The seminar covered several topics in depth, including promulgating, keeping and spending reserves. Mr. Tankel discussed the association collections process in depth, as well as how to deal with Emotional Support Animals, so-called Pets by prescription. Dealing with these pets owned by occupants of condos, cooperatives and homeowner association governed communities has potential Fair Housing Act (FHA) ramifications. The potential for so-called Disparate Impact violations of the FHA by use restrictions dealing with owner and tenant credit scores and criminal backgrounds was also addressed.
