101.9 RXP Radio Talk-Show "Frequency with Mark Farrell" Dedicates Special Show To National AMD/Low-Vision Awareness Month
Online, February 3, 2011 (Newswire.com) - "Frequency with Mark Farrell" which airs on Sundays at 6AM for the past three years on Emmis Broadcasting's 101.9 RXP, will be dedicated to the subject of low-vision awareness in support of February being National AMD/Low-Vision Awareness Month on February 27, 2011. Mark Farrell, who himself is visually-impaired, has been an active public advocate and spokesperson for the disabled and visually impaired for nearly two decades.
"Understanding the needs of low-vision individuals is of great importance," says Mark Farrell, "especially due to Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) which will affect our aging population along with a host of other degenerative eye conditions which exist. My goal is to provide insight, information and resources to my audience to help families and friends of those afflicted with these conditions receive the aid and support available."
Mark Farrell will be interviewing prominent representatives of the low-vision advocate community, including Mark G. Ackermann, Lighthouse International's President and CEO, and Dr. Bruce Rosenthal, the Chief of Low Vision at Lighthouse International which is an organization "dedicated to fighting vision loss through prevention, treatment and empowerment". Also joining Mark will be Vito DeSantis, Executive Director of the New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired, whose mission is to promote and provide services in the areas of education, employment, independence and eye health through informed choice and partnership with persons who are blind or visually impaired, their families and the community.
