1,000 or more women are expected to march during the "Women's Walk for Peace 2009" on October 3, 2009 from 10 AM until 4 PM. The event will begin from the Northview Heights Bridge and extend to West Park (Northside). It will include a concert featuring Gospel singing sensation Yolanda Adams and radio personality Bev Smith.

"Women are part of the solution to curb street and domestic violence... We are not going to take it anymore," states Ronell Guy (Executive Director of the Northside Coalition for Fair Housing and organizer for the Women's Walk).
A pre-walk event, for the FREE motion picture screening of "Pray the Devil Back to Hell," will be held on Saturday, September 26th at 7 PM at the Letter Carriers Building (841 California Avenue, Pittsburgh, 15212, Northside). "Pray the Devil Back to Hell" chronicles the remarkable story of the courageous Liberian women who came together to end a bloody civil war and bring peace to their shattered country.

The purpose of the Women's Walk for Peace is to acknowledge and honor the great work of the individuals and peace-building organizations in Western Pennsylvania. The walk will assist in the connection of these organizations, their work and resources to people experiencing the devastation of street and domestic violence.

The walk will be a model of multiple communities coming together to create an atmosphere of peace and non-violence based on absolute respect for human life and human spirit. We will join together different neighborhoods - different cultures in one united voice for peace.
