Winescan™ Founder Receives Wild Goose Award
Sheila Tendy, founder and CEO of Winescan LLC, the first app that allows you to remember and find where to buy the wines you love, received the prestigious " Wild Goose " Award at the 4th Annual Thomas Jefferson Wine Geese Wine Tasting on April 16th
April 16, 2014 (Newswire.com) - The Irish American Bar Association of New York hosted the 4th Annual Thomas Jefferson Wine Geese Wine Tasting and "Wild Goose" awards on April 16th, 2014. The event pays homage to those Irish vintners - the "Wine Geese" - who made their mark on the world of wine, and toasts those who have set themselves apart with their non-legal talents and creativity.
Sheila Tendy received the award for creating the Winescan app. Launched in 2013, Winescan uses bar code scanning technology in smart phones to capture, store and share information about wine with consumers, retailers, wholesalers and vintners.
Winescan was founded by Sheila Tendy, an attorney and entrepreneur in New York with a passion for wine. Sheila was frustrated that there was not an easy way to keep track of wines she liked or find them in stores and restaurants. She also noticed that many friends and colleagues shared the same problem.
Thus the idea for Winescan was born. Using the latest technology in smart phone apps, Winescan makes it easy to scan a bar code from a wine bottle that you love wherever you are -- at a restaurant, bar, home of a friend or even a bottle you were given as a gift. Winescan can then tell you where you can find that bottle of wine to buy and/or which restaurants serve it on their menus. You can even rate your favorites and keep a list of them on the app to refer to next time you are in a restaurant or wine store.

The term Wine Geese is based on the story of the Wild Geese, the Irish who fled their native land after the Battle of Kinsale in the 17th century. Wine Geese is the name given to the emigrant Irish families and their descendants who from the 18th century onwards engaged in the wine trade in the various countries of their adoption. Today their names and labels have become synonymous with quality on the international wine market and many of these pioneering wine families have played significant roles in the development of some of the finest wine-growing regions around the world, ranging from the Napa Valley in California to the Loire Valley in France, the Clare Valley in Australia and the Hemel En Aarde Valley in South Africa.
