ThinkNW Marketing All-Star Profile: Katie Townsend, SVP of Marketing and Communications for the Seattle Kraken

We’re pleased to announce our first class of ThinkNW Marketing All-Stars. Chosen by the ThinkNW board and executive team, this program kicks off a tradition of recognizing the unique marketing talent that drives our industry and region forward.

We asked our honorees to share a bit about their work, lives and what the Pacific Northwest means to them.

Here’s what Katie Townsend, SVP of marketing and communications for the Seattle Kraken, had to say.

How long have you been in your current role?

One and a half years.

What do you value most in your work in this role, and what do you consider your biggest accomplishment in your current role?

In my current role, I very much value the team that I work with and the fans and community that I work for. My team is energetic and passionate, and they are doing an amazing job. The fans have embraced us and shown extraordinary commitment over the last few years.

The biggest accomplishment is the Seattle Kraken brand launch which brought to life the name, design and colors through content, earned media, a five-hour live stream and an event on the construction site of our new arena.

What do you like to do outside of your work?

I am a mum of two girls (ages five and seven), and I love going on adventures with them and my husband. We love to travel. I am also an avid reader and member of a book club which is a great experience.

What impact does the Pacific Northwest have on your work?

As a brand based here, the PNW influences my work a lot as we seek to make sure we reflect it and are rooted here. This is through the imagery and brand ethos that we adopt and the manifestation of that through game day presentation.

I also love the beauty and the opportunities to get out and explore with my family.

How would you characterize the Pacific Northwest marketing/creative community? In your mind, what makes it unique?

This community has been so welcoming and is so great to collaborate with. I enjoy the sharing of knowledge with others and the desire to collaborate across brands. One unique thing is the number of women in positions of influence and their support for each other.
