Our Heritage
Founded in 1982, the Nevada Society of Scottish Clans is dedicated to celebrating and perpetuating the cultural heritage of Scotland and its people, including ancient customs, literature, music, games, history and dress.
The Society is based in Reno, and serves members in northern Nevada, northeastern California and beyond. Membership is not limited to people of Scottish decent. It’s open to those who share in the Society’s mission and goals.

CELEBRATING HERITAGE
Nevada Society of Scottish Clans
is dedicated to celebrating and perpetuating the cultural heritage of Scotland and its people, including ancient customs, literature, music, games, history and dress. The Society provides many opportunities for members to enjoy entertaining gatherings and events, including the renowned Robert Burns Celebration steeped in pageantry and tradition.
GOVERNANCE & SUPPORT
The Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization governed by a Board of Directors and supported by committees and members, who volunteer their time to ensure the Society remains viable, year after year. Membership dues and revenue from other services provide valuable operating funds.
ANCESTRY & ADVOCACY
The Society participates in Tartan Day at the Legislature to help recognize the monumental achievements and invaluable contributions made by Scottish Americans that have led to America’s preeminence in the fields of science, technology, medicine, government, politics, economics, architecture, literature, media and visual and performing arts. Recognition of these accomplishments is honored throughout the Society’s endeavors.

Hosting Tent at
Great Basin Scottish Highland Games

On May 4-5, NSSC will proudly represent the Society by hosting a tent at the 3rd Annual Great Basin Scottish Highland Games at the Gandolfo Rodeo Arena in Sparks - right under the big "S" on the hill in Sparks. Our tent will feature research on clans and tartans, as well as act as a space to help visitors learn about and join NSSC, update or renew membership, grab a piece of shortbread, and meet new and old friends.
Experience the love of Scottish Highland Heritage at the Great Basin Scottish Highland Games (GBSHG) presented by: The Northern Nevada Throwing Company.
Celebrating ancestral tradition, these unique events bring a taste of Scottish heritage to the Truckee Meadows area, featuring competitions like Stone Throw, Hammer Throw, Weight for Distance, Weight Over Bar, Sheaf Toss, and Caber Toss. Witness the impressive displays of strength, balance, and skill while enjoying beard competitions, coos, bagpipes, kilts, and vendors for an unforgettable experience.
